For each ingredient on the list, add the suggested amount for every 1 cup of pancake mix you use. Then, simply follow the box directions for a delicious and easy twist on buttermilk
pancakes. Enjoy making!
1. Chia Seeds
Add 2 tablespoons of chia seeds for a boost of omega-3 fatty acids, and fiber. Since chia seeds are essentially flavorless, it’s a great way to sneak in a little extra nutrition for those picky eaters.
2. Bananas
Mash up one medium-sized banana and toss into your mixing bowl. It’s okay if the batter is a little lumpy. For smoother batter, use an overripe banana.
3. Avocados
Avocados are packed full of healthy fats. Add 1/4 cup of mashed avocado to your pancake batter for a great start to your day.
4. Peanut Butter
Go a little nutty by adding 3 tablespoons of smooth or chunky peanut butter into your mixing bowl. Or add 1/3 cup of powdered peanut butter. If the batter gets a little too thick, simply add a
splash of water to even out the consistency.
5. Espresso Powder
Get a burst of caffeine and enjoy the rich flavor of coffee by adding 2 teaspoons of espresso powder to your pancake batter.
6. Raspberries
Place 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen (and thawed) raspberries in a bowl next to your cooktop. Pour the batter onto the griddle. Gently place raspberries into the cooking pancake, wait for the batter to bubble, then flip. Adding whole fruit to the pancake while it is cooking is an easy way to make sure you get an even amount in each pancake.
7. Almonds
Stir in 1/4 cup of almonds to add a slight crunch to your pancakes.
8. Applesauce
Add a subtle layer of sweetness with a 1/4 cup applesauce. If the batter is a little too thin, add an extra spoonful of pancake mix to thicken the consistency.
9. Brown Sugar and Cinnamon
Give your pancakes the warm flavor of a cinnamon bun by mixing in 2 tablespoons of brown sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon.
10. Bacon
Cook 4-5 slices of bacon, chop it up into pieces, and toss into your pancake batter for a savory crunch. Or pour your pancake batter over the whole slice and make bacon pancake dippers!
Get Creative with Pancake Add-Ins
Mix and match any of the ingredients in the above list for even more pancake fun. Try peanut butter and banana pancakes for a tasty treat. Combine raspberries and almonds for a sweet and nutty flavor. You can even use our list as inspiration for experimenting with your own ingredients. Imagine combining espresso powder with a touch of vanilla to create a vanilla latte pancake (topped with whipped cream, of course). Or toss in strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries for a burst of mixed berries in every bite. Experiment with molasses, lemon zest, dried cranberries, or pineapple. Go for a savory pancake by adding squash, zucchini, or cheese. When you start with Krusteaz®, the pancake possibilities are endless!
